International Wind Orchestras Festival “City of Genoa”, July 2020

The International Music Festival, on its ninth edition, is a very big and appreciated international musical event and meeting; during last years the participating groups came from all over the world: Finland, France, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, England, Russia, Israel, Canada and United States. Roger Boutry (February 27, 1932 – September 7, 2019) Pianist, composer, conductor and honorary president of the Garde Républicaine’s Wind Orchestra, Roger Boutry passed away last Saturday at 87 years of age. Besides his outstanding musicianship, he was a great mentor and an engaged pedagogue. The Valencia City Council has been holding the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia", the most important such contest in the world, since the late nineteenth century. The purpose of the Contest is to promote and encourage musical activity as a fundamental part of their cultural heritage, maintaining this tradition, and to give Valencians access to a rich, diverse program of musical activities. Björn Bus and Henk Smit take over artistic direction of the WMC

The overall artistic management of the “World Music Contest” (WMC) in Kerkrade (NL) will, from the coming autumn, be in the hands of conductor Björn Bus. Henk Smit, currently a jury member, will take over the artistic direction of the marching and show contests and the concert contests for percussion ensembles. These appointments were confirmed unanimously by the WMC board of directors in the last week.
