The National Band Association will be hosting the 2019 Young Composers/Conductors Mentor Project on June 17-21, 2019, in Washington, D.C. at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. Their hosts for the event, and ensemble-in-residence, will be the United States Air Force Band.Talented young composers and conductors can apply to be a part of this unique opportunity. American composer Carolyn Bremer passed away very suddenly on September 2, 2018. She was well known for her piece "Early Light" but composed also for many other genres of music.
The Valencia City Council has been holding the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia", the most important such contest in the world, since the late nineteenth century. The purpose of the Contest is to promote and encourage musical activity as a fundamental part of their cultural heritage, maintaining this tradition, and to give Valencians access to a rich, diverse program of musical activities. The overall artistic management of the “World Music Contest” (WMC) in Kerkrade (NL) will, from the coming autumn, be in the hands of conductor Björn Bus. Henk Smit, currently a jury member, will take over the artistic direction of the marching and show contests and the concert contests for percussion ensembles. These appointments were confirmed unanimously by the WMC board of directors in the last week. Izola, from 19th to 25th August 2018 Summer band camp organized by the Association of Slovenian Wind Bands is almost a 40-year long tradition.
