The Barbara Buehlman Prize for Composition

The 2023 prize is for a composition suitable for high school wind band. Duration no more than 6 minutes in length. The winning composition will receive a $3000 prize and a premiere at the 2023 Midwest Clinic. Rules: Composers should submit a composition appropriate for high school wind band. Composers must have been born on or after January 1, 1988 in order to be eligible. Compositions must be completed by one composer. Group compositions will not be accepted. VLAMO International Composition Contest

The VLAMO Composition Contest 2022 is looking for new wind band compositions for second (grade 2-2.5) and third (grade 1-1.5) division. By doing so, they want to encourage composers to write for this level of difficulty and put their laureates in the international spotlight. Deadline is October 31, 2022. During the WASBE conference in Prague, the compositions of the finalists of the 3rd WASBE Composition Contest were performed and the 1st prizes were awarded. In category 1 (difficulty 1-2) we congratulate very warmly J. Aaron Stanley (USA) for a 1st place with his composition "Deep Space Voyage". In category 2 (difficulty level 3-4) we congratulate very warmly Derek Jenkins (USA) for a 1st place with his composition "Rock Bottom".
