The 2012 Conducting Workshop for Music Educators: Inspiring Artistry in Music Education is designed for band and orchestra conductors actively teaching at the middle school, high school, and college levels.

Seminar Teachers: Eugene Corporon (University of North Texas); David Effron (Indiana University); Judith LeClair (New York Philharmonic and Juilliard); Johan de Meij (Composer and Conductor); Garwood Whaley (Meredith Music Publications); Juilliard faculty members Virginia Allen (Music), Noa Kageyama (Music), and Mark Olsen (Drama).
This Workshop is designed for band and orchestra conductors actively teaching at the middle school, high school, and college levels. The Workshop features band and orchestra conducting in the same workshop, daily conducting opportunities with advanced ensembles, sessions on specific issues in conducting and music education, and an opportunity for each Conducting Fellow to work with Conducting Faculty. All conducting sessions are video recorded. Seminar topics include centering for conductors, getting the best out of your musicians, expressive music making, a guide to the bassoon, score preparation, solving rhythm problems, spectrum of movement, and writing for winds. The repertoire is Bernard: Divertissement and Schubert: Symphony No. 5.
Ten Conducting Fellows will be selected to conduct during daily podium sessions for a Workshop total of 72 minutes; receive video feedback; and participate in seminars. Conducting Fellow applicants must submit a DVD of 15 minutes of a rehearsaland 15 minutes of a performance with the application. The Conducting Fellow fee is $2,000 for 2 credits. Thirty Participants will be selected to observe conducting sessions and participate in seminars. The Participant fee is $1,200 for 1 credit. Limited housing is available.
